Project Manager (Design-Build / New Media)

Posted on May 27, 2026

Hybrid — Berkeley, CA
Full-time or Contract

We’re seeking a high-agency, hyper-organised Project Manager to lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects from concept through final commissioning. Whether your background is in Design-Build — managing physical fabrication and on-site integration — or in New Media and technical production — coordinating software, interactive systems, and electrical workflows — you are the glue that holds ambitious creative visions together. At Digital Ambiance, you’ll live at the intersection of architecture, technology, and art, helping us deliver immersive environments and large-scale lighting installations that push the boundaries of what’s possible.

Responsibilities

  • Own the full project lifecycle, driving milestones, budgets, and schedules from kickoff through final commissioning.
  • Build and maintain project trackers, budgets, schedules, and documentation that keep multi-disciplinary teams aligned and accountable.
  • Serve as the primary bridge between our creative team, technical engineers, fabrication partners, external vendors, and high-profile clients.
  • Translate technical complexity into clear language — explaining a fabrication delay to a client just as fluently as you brief an electrician or programmer.
  • Lead on-site installations, troubleshoot logistical and technical challenges in real time, and ensure the final output aligns with the original design intent.
  • Identify bottlenecks before they happen, and put systems in place that keep the team moving without micromanagement.
  • Coordinate across concurrent projects, balancing priorities and resources to deliver on time and within budget.
  • Partner with leadership to refine process, tooling, and project standards as Digital Ambiance scales.

requirements

  • 3–5+ years of Project Management experience, specifically within Design-Build, Architecture, Specialty Fabrication, or New Media / Interactive Art.
  • Technical literacy with the ability to read and reason about technical drawings, fabrication processes, or digital media workflows.
  • A proven track record managing multiple concurrent projects with many moving parts — the kind of “organisational wizardry” that creative teams rely on.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Google Workspace, especially Google Sheets, and familiarity with project management software (Asana, Monday, or similar).
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to flex tone between client-facing polish and shop-floor directness.
  • Strong leadership presence on site, with the judgment to make decisions in the field and the humility to escalate when it matters.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and comfortable operating with creative agency in a fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous environment.
  • A portfolio or list of completed projects that outlines your specific contribution.

    why digital Ambiance

    • The chance to work at the forefront of experiential design and lighting technology, on projects that leave a lasting impact on viewers and communities.
    • A collaborative, creative culture built by artist-engineers who value individuality, problem-solving, and craft over cogs-in-a-machine thinking.
    • Flexible schedules and meaningful career growth as we scale.
